A SYROPHOENICIAN WOMAN – A WOMAN WHO PERSISTED (MARK 7:24-30)
PRAY: Ask God to help you understand as you study today.
READ: Mark 7:24-30
SPIRITUAL TEACHING:
The woman was a Greek (non-Jew). She believed Jesus could heal her demon-possessed daughter. She called Him Lord and acknowledged His divinity. Jesus spoke to her even though she was a non-Jew. He reminded her that the Jews needed His message first. She quickly responded in a humble but clever way. Jesus was delighted with her wit and persistent faith. He wants us to persist in our faith in Him. God calls all kinds of people to know Him. Everyone who acknowledges Jesus as Lord and their need of His forgiveness will know God’s blessing and be used by Him.
QUESTIONS:
Why did the Syrophoenician woman fall at the feet of Jesus? (vs. 25) What did she beg Jesus to do for her? (vs. 26) How did Jesus test her faith? (vs. 27) How did she reply to the comparison between the Jews and the Gentiles? (vs. 28) What was the response of Jesus to her persistent faith? (vs. 29)
MEMORY VERSE: Mark 7: 28
“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
PRAYER: Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Son to bring salvation to all who believe in Him whether they are Jews or Gentiles. Please give us stronger faith to trust You with all of our needs. Amen.
