One-sentence summary
Short Bible studies of various women in the New Testament
Description
This is a printed series of Bible studies, in English, on various women of the New Testament. The short studies are well rounded and thought provoking. They are presented in a concise, easy to understand manner that is appropriate for newly literate adults or teens.
This would be a good Bible study for newly literate women. The material would be fairly easy to translate.

Each lesson is divided into six sections:
1. PRAY: Ask God to help you as you study today
2. READ: Relevant Scripture
3. SPIRITUAL TEACHING: A short summary of the passage, highlighting the emphasis of that particular lesson and emphasizing how it relates to us
4. QUESTIONS: 5-8 questions about the passage, listing the verse where the answer is to be found
5. MEMORY VERSE: A verse taken from the passage listed
6. PRAYER: Based on the emphasis of the lesson, requesting God to work the same attribute in our lives.
Considerations
Level of literacy knowledge required to understand resource:
- This study could be used by newly literate adults who have access to the Bible and are able to find Scripture passages in them. It is a very simple Bible study, using short easy sentences.
Type of audiences for whom this resource might be useful:
- Those who are able to locate the passages of Scripture which are listed.
The studies could also be produced in an audio format for an oral culture.
Limitations
Biblical and cultural accuracy:
- In lesson 2, (Mary - the Mother of Jesus, the Woman who Believed), it is stated that “It was revealed to Mary who her Child was AND THE COMING PAIN SHE WOULD BEAR.” Though this might be implied in other Scriptural passages, it is not mentioned in the Scripture used in the lesson.
- In lesson 7, (Martha - A Woman Who loved and Served), there is the statement “Martha wanted her sister Mary to be blessed by the coming of Jesus.” There is no evidence of this idea in the Scripture passage given.
- In lesson 9, (Mary Magdalene - A Woman Released), is the sentence “Mary was the first person Jesus revealed Himself to after He had risen.” I would hope that when this is translated into other languages it will be made clear that He had risen from the dead.
- Also in lesson 9, the first sentence of the prayer is “You forgave us our sins because Jesus died on the cross.” Although this is explained in the rest of the prayer, I would prefer it to say something like “You forgave us our sins when we believe that Jesus took our punishment for us when He died on the cross.”
