The Genesis Project Inc.’s Luke

John Heyman, a British film producer, who envisioned putting the whole Bible on film, filmed the Luke video. He completed only the books of Genesis and Luke

The Genesis Project continues to distribute the Luke and Genesis videos. They are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Vernacular Media Services has permission to produce Luke and Genesis for language groups of up to ten million speakers.

As of December 2004, 207 Luke videos and 71 Genesis videos have been dubbed. There are 17 Luke and 4 Genesis videos in progress.

The Luke video contains the complete book of Luke. It is a very accurate version of the verse-by-verse account of Jesus’ life.

The script fit for Luke is less work than the Jesus video script fit where the book of Luke is already translated.

Because Luke is segmented into short episodes, it is ideal for Bible teaching, discussion groups, and evangelism. The episodes promote discussion of the text/teachings as they are viewed. After watching an episode, a teacher/leader can interact with the audience and answer questions that come from that episode.

The Luke episodes can be used as teaching videos. They contain historical information of life in Bible times. The Genesis Project provided teaching materials that accompany the Luke video. These include summaries of each episode, lesson plans for different age groups, and supplementary material (maps, history, culture, etc.). The Genesis Project has also produced The Companion Series. It gives similar background information and history in a filmstrip format with the text on audio cassette.

Campus Crusade for Christ’s Jesus

The footage for Jesus was taken from the New Media Bible (NMB) Luke video and edited into to a shorter version. This was originally for release in American movie theaters. Later Campus Crusade for Christ purchased the rights from Warner Brothers Studio to produce Jesus in various languages.

Jesus can be viewed in one sitting. This gives the viewer a holistic picture of the earthly ministry of Jesus. The first hour establishes His birth and ministry. The second hour shows the events leading up to His crucifixion, the actual crucifixion, and the resurrection. In order to compress the script into two-hours, the Scriptures were paraphrased and edited. Many of Jesus’ teachings were condensed.

The Jesus film has an evangelistic focus that culminates with an invitation to receive Christ as Savior. The invitation can be culturally adapted with permission from VMS.
