Brief Summary

Using The Lamb as a devotional can help clarify a previous commitment.

Introduction

Using The Lamb as a devotional took place at a kid's club on the campus of the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. The location was very adequate. The large space was in the basement of the dorm where all children, staff, and linguistics students were housed. There were 14 children (ages 5-9) involved for eight hours each day in this program.

Most of the families were missionaries or in training to become missionaries, so they lived frugally. The MK's (missionary kids) who had lived overseas were content with this. The others were looking forward to new experiences but were also concerned about how different life would be for them.

The children were very bright and all but four of the younger children were very good readers. The language used was English.

Most of the children came from Christian homes representing many different denominations. Many had made personal decisions to follow Christ. Therefore, the audio-book material was a review rather than an introduction to Christianity.

Key Factors

  • Setting was an American secular university where parents were taking part in a linguistics training program.
  • The children had strong Christian backgrounds.
  • The morning devotional time using The Lamb would provide an interactive environment to help the workers to understand the children's level of understanding.
  • The devotional times would help the children clarify their previous commitments.

What Was Done

This audio-book was used for ten days during our morning devotional time. The children were asked questions to determine their level of understanding. Because of their Christian background, most of them did very well at answering the questions.

The materials needed for the devotional times included:

  • Cassette tape player
  • The Lamb audio-cassette
  • The Lamb booklet

Results

Since the club met on university property, I was not able to present the plan of salvation. However I am sure that most of the children were already Christians. I believe the audio book helped clarify their understanding of their previous commitment.
