One-sentence summary

Audio cassette and doctrine booklet for young children.

Description

The audio book The Lamb presents the basic message of the Bible from Creation to the Cross. It uses language that is easy to understand for children ages five to eight years. The story of God’s message to man is told using a lamb as the solution for man’s sin problem. It is an evangelistic tool for children who know little or nothing about the Bible.

It should be used by an adult believer in ten lessons. The booklet that accompanies the audio tape has the written script. It also has a teaching guide and questions for the leader to ask at the end of each listening session. The book also includes two additional short sections with guidance on helping the children learn how to believe in, and follow Jesus.

Listening time for each chapter runs four to six minutes. The total time for listening is ten to fifteen minutes. This includes questions that test understanding on each of the ten chapters. Each chapter begins with a review of the former material. A second cassette tells the whole story without reviews or breaks.

This product is also now available in book form with accompanying CD. Each page of writing has a full-color facing illustration. The book has 10 chapters with answers to the questions and a page of endnotes to explain certain difficult concepts. The book has 182 pages. Most Bible passages are taken from the New International Version (NIV). Other passages come from the New American Standard Bible Update or the New King James Version (NKJV)

Considerations

  • The material is Biblically accurate and gives a clear and simple explanation of how to believe and follow Jesus.
  • Listening to the audio cassettes should be simple for children ages five to eight years.
  • Used with children in vernacular language groups, the age range could be expanded and in some cases could include adults.
  • Careful attention is given to laying solid foundations for every new concept taught.
  • The music sections between chapters are short. They could be deleted or replaced with appropriate vernacular music and songs if GoodSeed gives permission.
  • There are no sound effects which might distract.
  • This audio cassette story could be reinforced by the use of Bible story pictures to color and take home.
  • Only two voices would be needed to record the material in vernacular languages.
  • Non-readers could be used for the voices using the prompter method.
  • Much emphasis is placed on the use of the name “Lucifer” as Satan’s name. The word, Lucifer is used only once in the Bible in Isaiah 14:12 and then only in the KJV, NKJV and Geneva Bibles.
  • Other translations use the word “Morning Star” in reference to Lucifer. (See notes on this point written by the author at the following web site: GoodSeed
  • In some cultures children will need background preparation as introduction to sheep and specifically the lamb. A colored photo would be helpful.
  • Chapter two mentions drawing pictures, which some children won’t understand.
  • In chapter two, the reference to necessary rules will need other examples in some cultures. The examples used include traffic lights, stop signs and speed limits. These things will have no meaning in some cultures.
  • Chapter five uses an example about a river to illustrate trust. Some children will not know what a river is, if they have never seen one.
  • The idea of cities would need to be explained for children in some language groups.

Limitations

Guidelines for Use

  • Possible uses of the material or secondary products when translated into vernacular languages include:
  • Use with audio cassettes
  • Use as vernacular Sunday school curriculum.
  • Use as Bible curriculum in schools.
  • Use as radio scripts.
  • Use with Bible pictures to color that relate to the lesson.
  • Use questions as something to answer and take home as a reminder of what has been learned and any decision made to believe in and follow Jesus.
