Description

The JESUS Film Flannelgraph set is an interactive felt picture resource based on The Story of Jesus for Children video/DVD. Many of the characters are taken directly from the video. These stories are from the Gospel of Luke.

The set includes these items for all forty-seven stories:

• 1 mounted presentation board
• 4 background sheets that have 123 lifelike colored human figures
• Instruction manual with 47 scenes
• 2 unmounted flannelboards (size 26" x 36")
• Dark purple background
• Indoor scene

There are four overlays to use on top of the flannelboards.

• Meadow
• Throne Room
• Hillside and Trees
• Desert scene

A copy of The Jesus Film for Children DVD is included. The NTSC format version is available in the following languages:

• Italian
• Russian
• Polish
• Portuguese

In 2007 a new flannelgraph set called Beginnings was completed. It includes three more sheets of figures for use in teaching thirty-eight lessons from the book of Genesis. These can be used in addition to the figures from the JESUS set. They illustrate the stories that introduce children to God. They learn where all people come from and why all people act the way we do.

Both these sets include twelve pages of instructions for laying out the numbered figures for each story. The stories themselves will need translation.

Considerations

• Flannelgraph figures will last longer than paper in tropical climates.
• It is very important to have all figures in order and stored so that the numbered objects can be easily found.
• The storage box set would help do this. It includes one box and ten pages for keeping the flannel figures organized.
• Special scissors are available for cutting out the flannel figures. This needs to be done carefully. These are available from The Felt Source. * This set would be useful follow-up wherever The Jesus Video/DVD, or the The Story of Jesus for Children video/DVD has been translated and shown to the people.

Limitations

• Neither of these sets include the actual stories to be translated. These are just the figures to illustrate the stories. The Bible stories will still need to be translated. You can find translated stories at The Felt Source in the teachers manual Through The Bible in Felt.
• Some of the colors might not be culturally appropriate.
• Cutting out the flannel graph figures is a big job and needs to be done carefully by an adult.
• Some of the same figures are used in different stories. This may confuse some children.

Guidelines for Use

• Use in discipleship follow-up, church, Sunday school, short-term missions, Bible clubs, Vacation Bible School, schools, and camps.
• It is important to keep all the flannel board figures in a safe place.
• Every detail of the stories cannot be shown. Children and teachers must use their imaginations.
• The stories can be made culturally appropriate.
• The stories must be prepared and practiced ahead of time.
• Tell the purpose of the stories. Do not include the details.
• Select all the figures needed before the story is to be told.
• Have all the needed figures ready before starting to tell the story.
• Have background in place before starting to tell the story.
• It may help to let the children put up the figures as the story is told.
