One-sentence summary

Children's Bible teaching that introduces the Names of God.

Description

The title of this book is Trusting God As: Provider, Leader, Shepherd, Healer, Peacegiver, Friend, Saviour. Seven of God's names are simply explained for children aged 7-11 years. These Bible stories show how these names of God are useful for us today. The ninety-six page paperback has eleven sections.

  1. A Strong Tower: Introducing the Name of God
  2. I am who I am: God introduces Himself
  3. Jehovah Jireh: The Lord Will Provide
  4. Jehovah Nissi: The Lord Is My Banner
  5. Jehovah Rohi: The Lord is my Shepherd
  6. Jehovah Rophi: The Lord Who Heals
  7. Jehovah Shalom: The Lord is Peace
  8. Jehovah Shammah: The Lord is There
  9. Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord our Righteousness
  10. Jehovah Maccaddeshem: The Lord who sanctifies
  11. Jehovah Sabaoth: LORD of Hosts

Considerations

  • This book would be best understood by children whose language has a complete Bible in their language.
  • It is a good teaching tool for children who are believers in Jesus.
  • If a language group does not have a Bible, just the verses used (Especially in the Bible Search sections) could be translated. This might cause some misunderstandings.
  • Each section ends with something to think about and something to thank God for.
  • There are nine Bible Searches that list Bible verses that apply to the section. In the English, children are asked to look up the verses. These are used to answer questions. In people groups where children do not read or write, these verses could be read aloud.
  • The answers are given at the end of the book.
  • All Bible verses are from the King James Version (KJV).

Limitations

  • Some of the written illustrations would be meaningless in many cultures. Cultural equivalents would be needed. * For example: **Page 23 asks if children have ever seen the Trooping of the Colours ceremony for the Queen of England.
  • Page 29 mentions a cooker (stove).
  • Page 69 includes a poem that will be hard for many children to understand. They need to know Christian terms such as: grace, rapture, daughters of Zion. The poem will probably not translate well as poetry.

Guidelines for Use

  • Use as an audio book or CD in schools, Sunday schools or church.
  • Use as a teaching resource for Christian radio programs.
