One-sentence summary
A young North African boy saves his blind sister from being sold into slavery.
Description
This 160-page paperback has been revised for English-speaking children. It is the story of an eleven-year-old North African boy. His step-father had planned to sell his sister to a blind beggar. He and his blind sister escape. They leave the mountain village. They arrive in a town and find a home for his sister.
The first eleven chapters tell how Hamid stays near his blind sister, Kinza. Every night, he goes with a group of street boys to the home of the nurse who cares for Kinza. She feeds them and tells them stories about Jesus. Hamid learns to trust in Jesus.
Chapter twelve takes place in England. A group of blind children and their visitors are celebrating the Christmas holiday. One of the visitors is a young girl named Jenny.
Jenny and her parents go to North Africa to visit her aunt who is a nurse. Her aunt tells her the story of Jesus. But Jenny is not ready to believe in Jesus.
The happy times suddenly end. The step-father comes to town. He finds Kinza and takes her away. Jenny learns a hard lesson. A solution is found to satisfy the step-father. The book has a happy ending.

Considerations
- This book was written for children ages 10-12.
- Younger children ages 6-9, would enjoy listening to it read to them.
- Each chapter begins with a small black and white picture. These help set the scene for the chapter. Some of the pictures are used more than once.
Limitations
- The book has two parts, the first in North Africa and the second introduces British involvement. The switch in setting might confuse children in some cultures.
- The involvement of missionaries in the book could cause problems in some sensitive areas.
