Savanna or savannah, is a grassland with widely scattered trees and shrubs. Most savannas are in the tropics and lie between deserts and rain forests. Savannas can be a geographical barrier if there are no roads, airstrips, or navigable waterways.

May 5, 2006 jvd Its fertile soils encourage cultivation for agriculture and the natural grasses can support cattle ranching. The climate is generally moderate or temperate with moderate rainfall. Prairies are known as steppe in Europe and Asia, and as pampa(s) in South America.
