REMOTE VOLUNTEERS

Summary

Procedures for remote volunteers.

  1. When an inquirer indicates an interest in providing computing services from his/her home, VMS Personnel will send the following items:
    • Info pack
    • JAARS Remote Volunteer Questionnaire
    • Technical Questionnaire (TQ) with HB return address crossed out and JAARS address noted instead
  2. Letter stating our interest in pursuing the contact provided that the TQ shows that skills/experience are in line with our needs. However, the letter should also mention that, from administrative and practical viewpoint, there are some limitations as to what extent and for what projects we can use people working remotely.
  3. When the TQ is returned, the head of Language Support will assess it and do a Technical Evaluation (TE) of the applicant.
  4. If the TE is positive, suitable projects will be identified. However, this doesn’t mean that a project necessarily can be given immediately after a TE is cleared. For each project, the head of Language Support will have the remote volunteer sign a document protecting both parties:
  5. JAARS will not put any blame on the remote volunteer for any program, etc. that doesn’t perform to our satisfaction.
  6. The remote volunteer will have no legal right to software developed, etc. while working on a JAARS project.
  7. Before the first project, the remote volunteer would normally spend a minimum of one week at JAARS in order for him/her to become more familiar with our operation and for us to get to know him/her.
  8. VMS Personnel will maintain a database with pertinent info on those who have expressed an interest in serving from a distance.
