One-sentence summary

The first book in a series of Bible studies for children with age related activities and memory verses.

Description

This is the first book of a 14 book series of interdenominational Bible studies. This book as well as the other 13 is for ages from three to nine years old. The next series of six books is for nine to eleven year-old children. The final six book series is for 11-14 year-old children and young teens.

The series takes children through the Bible in three years. The series covers the main Bible stories from Genesis to the Acts of the Apostles. All the Bible stories are taught as truth and not myth. Each book is comprehensive and contains everything needed. Each lesson has three age related activities that can be copied.

Every lesson has a lesson aim. The teacher is provided with Bible study notes to help them understand the passage. The study notes assume that the teacher will have a Bible and be able to read it.

Suggestions are given for visual aids as well as an activity for the children to take home. One activity is suitable for 2-5 year-olds, one activity is for 5-7 year-olds and one activity is good for use with 7-9 year-old children.

Considerations

  • The teacher preparation section assumes that each teacher has and will be able to read a Bible. In many language groups vernacular Bibles are not translated.
  • Suggested activities for children ages 7-9 assumes that they can read simple material. If reading is not part of the culture the activity for younger children could be used.
  • Materials for making some of the suggested visual aids may not be available for all people.
  • Colored paper
  • Brads
  • Glue or paste
  • Colored crayons
  • Scissors
  • Photocopy machine
  • Additional pictures
  • Flannelgraph materials

The English language crossword puzzles will not be usable in other languages.

Limitations

Guidelines for Use

  • For oral cultures this material might be translated into the local language and presented using an audio cassette or CD. It would be helpful for teachers preparation materials to be separate for material for the children themselves.
  • Instead of children making the suggested activities individually, they might be presented using a flipchart, with colors acceptable in the culture.
