One-sentence summary

This video is a verse-by-verse presentation of Jesus’ life as recorded in the Gospel of Luke.

Description

The video is divided into 15 episodes of 15 to 18 minutes each. The total showing time is 4 hours and 20 minutes.

An actor performs as Jesus Christ in this film. He is not Jesus Christ but represents Him. The viewer will accompany him as He walks the roads of Palestine, just like Jesus Christ did. They watch him heal the sick, cast out demons, feed 5,000, and calm the storm just as Jesus Christ did. The viewer can hear Jesus teach His disciples and the crowds that follow Him. As Jesus is accepted or rejected by the religious leaders, and the common people, the video shows the events from His birth to His crucifixion and resurrection.

Considerations

The short episodes of this video can be used for Bible studies, discussion groups, and evangelism. (Contact Vernacular Media Services (VMS) for a way to combine a Luke Video in your minority language with Luke Study Questions on DVD.) After an episode has been viewed, the teacher/leader can interact with the audience. This can result in a discussion about it. This can increase their understanding of the message.

Viewing the life of Jesus in more detail and over an extended time (using 15 episodes as compared to the two-hour Jesus video), gives the viewer more time to digest and absorb the message.

Filmed in Israel, it can be used to teach information about life in Bible times.

Several people from the language community should view and evaluate the video to identify any scenes or cultural issues that might distract from the message. Has this people group been exposed to movies or video? How will they understand a film/video? Will the background music and special effects miscommunicate cross-culturally or distract from the message? Will they understand it as a representation of reality or only as make-believe? How will they accept information that isn’t expressly described in Scripture?

The Media Observation Form and the Video Review Form are helpful in further evaluating the potential use of video in the culture.

Prior scriptural knowledge would be advantageous to understand the message of the video.
