Coloring book about a Filipino boy who describes his family life.
Description
The story begins as Daniel wakes and starts his day. He is excited to learn that he will be going with his father to visit a tribal group. They will carry medicine and seeds up to a group living in the hills.
As the trip begins the transportation and scenery is pictured and described. The group visited is also described. The black and white pictures to color that accompany the brief script are interesting and accurate. They show a part of life in the Philippines.
The book has twenty-two pages. Each page has a large line drawing to color and one paragraph of the story. A map of south-east Asia is included at the beginning of the book. It shows the location of the Philippines in relation to the whole area.
Considerations
- Most of the drawings are easily understandable even for unsophisticated people, although four show only the top portions of people. These would need explanation for some people groups.
- The drawings accurately follow the script.
- The story is simple and does a good job of describing Daniel's adventure.
- Page seven does express a negative attitude towards Roman Catholics.
- Some pages talk about the female Christian missionary that Daniel and his father accompany on their visit to the hill people. This might be a potential problem.
Limitations
Guidelines for Use
- With a few minor changes, this book would be useful as an audio cassette color book or with flipchart illustrations. It would be especially useful in the Philippines.
- Useful in other countries to help children realize that all children have the same basic needs and they all need Jesus.
