Description

Children learn about New Zealand, its history, animals and people. It has 94 pages and 15 chapters. Each chapter is about a different subject.

Each chapter ends with a Scripture reference related to the chapter. Each chapter has black and white drawings.

This book would be especially useful for children who live in the South Pacific. This includes Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the many other islands.

The chapter titles and brief description:

  • New Zealand - a brief geographical and historical overview of the country.
  • Courage and Ingenuity - a New Zealand man was the first to build and fly an airplane. (This was a few months before the Wright Brother's flight.)
  • Moeraki Boulders - an early history of the South Island, and the founding of the city of Dunedin.
  • The Royal Albatross - the speed and beauty of this large bird.
  • The Bird that Shouts - facts about the yellow-eyed penguins. They live only on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
  • Shipwrecks and Sea Lions - lighthouses guide ships away from dangerous rocks. Also facts about four kinds of sea lions.
  • Hoppers and Jumpers - facts about birds and dolphins.
  • Jet-setters of the Bird World - facts about mutton birds.
  • Watch Out for Parrots - the South Island has unusual parrots that live in a protected World Heritage area.
  • Lake Te Anau Mysteries - glow worms found in caves, and a kind of bird thought to be extinct.
  • High Country Sheep Station - the importance of sheep and shepherds in New Zealand
  • Gold Fever - The discovery of gold brought many men to New Zealand to search for it. Many became greedy with the desire for gold. They risked their lives and many died searching for the wrong kind of riches.
  • Courage and Love - a young man struggles through deep snow to deliver mail. God calls another young man to share His love with miners.
  • Kiwi Adventures Quiz - Twenty-six questions about the book, and a simple map of New Zealand.
