Impact Story

(Placing the last Talking Bible player in Palantla in February of 2005)

Pat and I had a full day in San Juan Palantla and distributed all 19 of the Talking Bibles we had with us. The last one distributed was especially memorable.

As dusk turned into darkness we had visited one home and placed a Talking Bible. As we were leaving a young girl pressed money into Pat's hands and asked for a player for her family. Pat gave her the last one. She then returned to our vehicle to get the accompanying books. She returned to where I was and told me what she had done and said she had no idea where the girl lived. Another child (children had been following us all day) said she knew the house and so we set off. Before we got to the door we could hear the Talking Bible doing its thing—playing a portion of the Chinantec New Testament. We called and got admitted to see the player on a table and the room full of family members quietly listening to the message.

We knew the family but this was the first time any interest in the Gospel had been shown.
