Considerations

  • Words used in the lessons are simple. The sentences are short.
  • Pictures used in the lessons are big, clearly drawn and uncluttered.
  • Many of the simple crafts (if used) need to be prepared in advance.
  • Lessons are written for short attention spans of from 3-5 minutes.
  • Each lesson is set out in the same way.
  • The title is followed by the aim of the lesson.
  • Teacher preparation gives the Bible focus for the lesson.
  • The drawings showing Adam and Eve in the garden are black line drawings on white paper with no body details. This might still cause problems in some cultures.

Limitations

  • The Bible story is written out in suitable language as a guide only.
  • The Bible story should not be read to the children, it should be told orally.
  • Each lesson ends with a prayer.
  • At the back of the books are details of how to make some of the suggested visual aids.
  • Pictures from a child’s story Bible would be useful as visual aids.
  • Each lesson is on one page. Some lessons include craft printouts.
  • Scripture references are from the Good News Bible.
  • Some lesson crafts may need appropriate changes that relate to and reflect conditions of a specific language group.
  • The lesson on travel
  • The lesson on animals
  • Clothing styles
