A 13 lesson missions curriculum written for young children.
Description
All God’s Children: Building Bridges to the People of the World is a missions workshop curriculum. It was written for young children. It shows the common needs of all peoples. It explains some of the many ways people in the world meet their basic needs. The children are taught positive attitudes and compassion for all people who do not know Jesus.
The thirteen lessons include the following topics and Bible stories:
- Let the Children Come to Me! Matt 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16
- All God’s Children Have Skin. The Skin Sin. Genesis 27 & 28
- All God’s Children Need Food. Matt. 6:25-34
- All God’s Children Need Clothing. Matt. 6:25-34
- All God’s Children Need a Home. Homes for Moses Exodus 2:1-22
- All God’s Children Need a Family. Uses various Bible families as examples.
- All God’s Children Need Friends. A Paralyzed Man. Mark 2:1-12 & Luke 5:17-26
- All God’s Children Need Neighbors. The First Church. Acts 2:42-47 & Acts 4:32- 34
- All God’s Children Need to Learn. Jesus Learned. From Luke 2
- All God’s Children Travel. Traveling through the Bible, from various Scriptures.
- All God’s Children Need to be Healthy. Health for God’s glory. John 9:1-41
- All God’s Children Need Love. Pass it on. Unforgiving Servant. Matt. 18:21-35
- All God’s Children Need Jesus. The Jesus Story: Paul in Athens. Acts 17:16-34
Considerations
- All God’s Children has been written for children who are four to six years old. It can easily be adapted for younger or older children.
- Many visuals for copying and coloring are included. Other needed visuals might be found in magazines.
- Words to two simple songs are included. They could be translated and used with appropriate music for children of the intended language group.
- Very simple game times are also included. They are easily adaptable and could be taught in almost any culture.
- The exact words the teacher is to use for each lesson are printed in bold black. This makes it easy for the teacher to know what to say.
- The various home types used in lesson 5 are good and would prove a useful educational tool for children in any culture.
- All the visuals included are a valuable resource for teaching each lesson. Permission is given to copy the visuals.
- The curriculum might be used for thirteen weekly lessons. It could also be used for a monthly missions emphasis.
- The curriculum in English uses "The Beginners Bible" told by Karyn Henley. In other languages the corresponding Bible story will need to be translated ahead of time, using this or another children’s Bible.
- Some of the materials needed are included in the back of the program booklet and just need copying to be useful.
Limitations
- Some language groups may find it difficult to find appropriate magazine pictures to be used by the children in lesson one.
- Some of the other materials may also be difficult to secure. These suggestions for activities may be deleted or substitutions made.
- List of materials that may be difficult to find:
- Multiple shades of brown crayon for coloring rubbing cards.
- Picture of Jesus
- Balloons (lesson 2)
- Magnifying glasses
- Play dough or clay (lesson 6)
- Newspapers (lesson 7)
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Variety of fresh cut fruits (lesson 8)
- Toy money, toy food, two pairs of socks
- Calculator, magnetic numbers
- Toy vehicles (lesson 10)
- Health care items (lesson 11)
- Game of dominoes or rectangular wooden blocks (lesson 12)
- Bird visuals used for lesson 3 could be substituted with pictures of birds from the local area.
- The clothing styles pictured for use in lesson 4 could be substituted with styles from the local area.
