About Audio-visual Media

Audio-visual media includes both sound and visuals together. Some examples are movies, videos, PowerPoint presentations that include sound, etc. When translating audio-visual material from one language to another, for example dubbing a video, the workers should meet with the translation team to evaluate the audio-visual product and identify any cultural issues that might detract from the message.

Considerations

  • Has this people group been exposed to moving pictures or audio-video?
  • How will they perceive audio-video?
  • Will they understand it as a representation of reality or only as make believe?
  • How will they perceive extra information in the video that isn't expressly described in Scripture?
  • Should background music and special effects be included? They may not communicate cross-culturally as originally intended.
